In October 2013, the DC Council passed the Community Renewables Energy Act of 2013, which allows for community solar projects in the District.
With community solar, if you can’t install solar on your own property you can instead subscribe to a share in a solar project located somewhere else in their community. You’ll then receive credit on your utility bill for the portion of the solar electricity produced by your share.
DC SUN is exploring the possibility of developing a community solar project. If you are interested in going solar but currently rent, live in an apartment building/condo, or your home is shaded, sign up for our list and we’ll notify you when community solar projects start getting developed.
