Advocacy and Policy

Our goal is to strengthening D.C.’s solar policies and community of solar supporters by mobilizing D.C.’s community of solar supporters to fight for fair policies so all D.C. residents can benefit from solar energy.

Current policy and advocacy efforts

Whenever the DC Council considers solar policies, DC SUN supporters turn out with sun flowers to show our support.

Past successful policy efforts

  • Community Renewables Energy Act of 2013

  • Distributed Generation Amendment Act of 2011

    • Closed the DC Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) market so that the market only benefits the DC ratepayers that fund the program
  • Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008

    • Created mechanism for the implementation of a residential DC solar rebate program
  • Other successful policy efforts

    • Intervening on issues with the Public Services Commission such as smart meters and net-metering rules
    • Advocating for consumer net metering and smart metering rights
    • Working with DC SEU’s solar program
    • Work on D.C. Mayor’s Sustainability Plan
